Island Recreation Board

The Island Recreation Board organizes activities for residents of Deer Isle and Stonington, principally youth. Activities vary from year to year depending on the composition of the Board. Since 1994 these activities have included swimming, gymnastics, skiing/riding, tennis, roller skating, skate boarding, hiking (at Acadia, Isle au Haut, and Baxter State Park), field trips to Maine Discovery Museum and athletic events, pumpkin carving events, youth basketball and cheering programs.

The purposes of the Island Recreation Board are to organize and facilitate recreational activities and opportunities for all members of the Island Community; to support the development of recreational facilities and opportunities for recreation in co-operation and conjunction with the Boards of Selectmen, Town Manager, and other organizations.
